Blah blah something about how I first heard this band and why this show confirms those initial feelings etc. whatever.
Where bands start doesn’t really matter. It’s where they’re going. I’ve no interest in artist’s who lack ambition. Which isn’t to say I expect every band to want to fill stadiums, but I want them to have the ambition to play every show like it really matters. I want them to have the ambition to convince me of their own musical convictions.
I first saw Farewell Singapore supporting Young Guns in Ivory Blacks, so many years ago that I don’t care to count them, and still have that ambition. Growing up, life and the fickle nature of music as a whole…none of that seems to have taken a toll on them. Two thumbs up all round.
Also, on a more conventionally level the songs they write are super catchy and melodic but there’s a lovely thread of aggressive music tying it all together. That’s pretty swell too.
If you’re into accessible aggressive music that doesn’t sound like it’s been polished by a team of professional polishers who really like to polish stuff then Farewell Singapore are a band you should be listening to. Or don’t. Or whatever.
