Who even needs a stage? Stages are for losers man. You know who aren’t losers? Heck. Know how I figured that out? Because they don’t really use a stage.
That’s the benefit of an expensive education. You can spot subtleties like that.
In years to come a picture of Heck will probably be used to illustrate the definition of punk rock. Probably one of those ludicrous “heavy metal courses” that have emerged over the last couple of years. Which is good, because bands could learn a whole lot from Heck.
I’ve lucky enough to shoot them twice, once at this year’s Hevy Fest and then in Glasgow last night, and it was a challenging and exhilarting experience. Few bands play sets that feel dangerous and that way we’re told rock ‘n’ roll is meant to be, but even fewer play it in such a warm and inclusive manner. The band’s set was utter chaos, but there wasn’t a drop of fear in the room.
You were in danger of slipping on the sweat and adrenaline though.
That and the songs were great and they jumped off stuff a lot. What else do you want ?
